Graymoor Featured in Chicago Sun Times

The Chicago Sun Times ran this excellent article about the Graymoor subdivision in Olympia Fields, Illinois featuring my listing at 96 Graymoor, a beautiful sprawling post & beam home that's currently on the market for $500,000. It also discusses the Julius Shulman book about the modernist homes of Chicago, three of which are right here in the Graymoor neighborhood.

Shulman Book Event

Lunchtime Lecture  on Wednesday, June 23rd at 12:15pm

The Chicago Architecture Foundation has invited Chicago Bauhaus & Beyond to do a presentation and book-signing at their wonderful facility in downtown Chicago. My own house is featured in the book along with several other great modernist homes owned by CBB members. I'll be speaking, and Gary Gand will give a slide lecture with images and stories about the making of the new Rizzoli book, Julius Shulman: Chicago Mid-Century Modernism.

Chicago Bauhaus and Beyond contacted legendary photographer Julius Shulman to record Chicago’s modernist residential architectural heritage. This book is Shulman’s final book project before his death in 2009, and documents modern masterpieces by Edward Dart, Bertrand Goldberg, Paul Schweikher, Edward Humrich, Harry Weese, and others.

A book signing will follow in the Chicago Architecture Foundation Shop, where books will be available for purchase. No RSVP necessary. The CAF is located at 224 S. Michigan. If you can't make it to the lecture, the books are also available on Amazon.com. Hope to see you there!

Julius Shulman: Chicago Midcentury Modernism

It's Here!  Our new book of midcentury Chicago homes photographed by the one-and-only Julius Shulman has been published by Rizzoli Books and is now available for purchase. Chicago Bauhaus and Beyond worked very hard on getting this book together, and persuaded Julius Shulman to come to Chicago to document some of our outstanding examples of midcentury residential architecture, with the aim of furthering the appreciation of these hidden gems. All too often, these homes are lost due to lack of understanding of just what treasures they are.

Mr. Shulman passed away last year at the age of 98, but when he came to Chicago to do this project, many of us were privileged to meet him and enjoy his company. It was an experience we'll never forget.
