I have the listings for 2 Don Erickson-designed homes in the Barrington area; the Gunnar Erickson House and Erickson's own estate. Tomorrow, June 17th, I'm hosting a Brokers Open House at both of these listings, and I'm inviting all of my readers, too. Usually these events are restricted to Realtors only, but I thought, the more-the merrier! It's a rare opportunity to tour these 2 fantastic modernist homes and enjoy some wine and cheese.

The homes will be open from 4-6pm and are located at 871 Braeburn Rd in Inverness, and 26280 W. Rt. 22 in Barrington. Hope to see you there!

Shulman Book Event

Lunchtime Lecture  on Wednesday, June 23rd at 12:15pm

The Chicago Architecture Foundation has invited Chicago Bauhaus & Beyond to do a presentation and book-signing at their wonderful facility in downtown Chicago. My own house is featured in the book along with several other great modernist homes owned by CBB members. I'll be speaking, and Gary Gand will give a slide lecture with images and stories about the making of the new Rizzoli book, Julius Shulman: Chicago Mid-Century Modernism.

Chicago Bauhaus and Beyond contacted legendary photographer Julius Shulman to record Chicago’s modernist residential architectural heritage. This book is Shulman’s final book project before his death in 2009, and documents modern masterpieces by Edward Dart, Bertrand Goldberg, Paul Schweikher, Edward Humrich, Harry Weese, and others.

A book signing will follow in the Chicago Architecture Foundation Shop, where books will be available for purchase. No RSVP necessary. The CAF is located at 224 S. Michigan. If you can't make it to the lecture, the books are also available on Amazon.com. Hope to see you there!

Explore Chicago!

I just read about this fantastic website in the Tribune this morning and spent some time poking around the website. I love Chicago, and love introducing people to all this great city has to offer, but even I don't have all this information. Explorechicago.org has a great map of all 77 neighborhoods in the city, and each neighborhood has its own mini-site with a map, architecture, restaurants, community events, shopping and more. Take a look around then get out there and explore.
